All of us were pleased with the class results in the 2010-2011 Lawrenceville Fund
We had 87 contributors and 83% participation, good enough for the class to win
The
Class of 1980 Cup,
awarded to the class with the highest member of contributors and
The McClellan Award, given to the class with 100% or more having the highest
participation. Many thanks to all of you who participated and to the members of the
Leadership Committee for all their help, particularly
Larry Heilman, Colin
Thompson, George White, Ted Wood, Vern Loucks
and Don Laws. Ted and
Fred Seving
spent a day at the school making calls to classmates as we came down
to the wire. We’d like to have a couple of additional classmates to help in this process,
so if you are willing to lend a hand for this year’s fund, please let us know.
Jane and I drove up to Carmel, CA, for a few days in July (We do this periodically) and,
as we usually do when we are there, got together with for dinner with Sheila and
Joe
Mark
and then Jo and George White. They are all doing very well.
I hope you’ll read
Bruce Robinson’s first book entitled Legend of the Strait: A Novel
About Benecia, California, During the Prohibition Era
. It is an excellent historical novel
[available on Amazon] which I read and reviewed in my newsletter for readers,
The
Readers Exchange
. Bruce and Barbara moved to Benecia in 1999 (they’ve recently to
the Sacramento area ) and he became intrigued with the history of Benecia, located on
the Carquinez Strait just off the northern part of the San Francisco Bay  Let me know if
you’d like to see the review  of
Legend of the Strait included in the September 2011
issue of
The Readers Exchange. .  [* They moved to Del Webb’s Sun City in Lincoln
Hills where David and Laurel Whorf are now living. David reports he just sat in on a
presentation in Sun City by Bruce of his new novel.]
Laurel and
David Whorf (David manages our website at Lville53.com) moved from
Carmel, CA where they had lived for a number of years to the Sacramento area. David
wrote: “My 77th birthday is coming up this weekend, I never expected to feel this good
at this age! I am doing 77 push-ups in the morning, walking about three and a half
miles, and biking about twenty miles every other day. I have organized a Scooter
Group (think Vespas) here in Sun City and we take off on our many back roads to
destinations unknown. I am an active member of the new Sacramento Valley Mercedes
SLK Club. I am also learning to pot – as in turning pots on a pottery wheel. In additions,
I am a member of the Computer Group and the Astronomy Group here in Sun City. So,
I’m keeping busy in my retirement.”

There are a few classmates that we have not heard from in some time. With our 60th (!)
Reunion coming up in 2013 we are eager to be in touch with everyone to make this
event a big success. The “lost” classmates are:
Peter Calyer, John Crabtree, Jim
Darby, Tony Gibbs, Tom Gries, Mary Hecht, Noel Maurer, Jack Miller, Jim
Pierce, Andy Rogensburg, Pierre Richards, Joe Scales, Leon Simcoe, Rudy
Smutny
and Ken Suegart. If you have any information on these individuals, please let
us know.

We will soon begin talking about our
60th Reunion, so stay tuned. In the meantime,
please send us a note to tell us about your family, your travels, how you spend your
days and your thoughts so we can spread the word among classmates. My email is as
above and my address is 3275 Oakdell Lane, Studio City, CA 91604.
